From Arthur Levine, your Guide to Theme Parks
Bad news: Summer is rapidly coming to a close and with it the daily operation of seasonal parks.

Good news: The end of the summer is traditionally the time that parks announce all of their goodies for the coming season. Case in point: Two new major coasters were just revealed for 2013. My coaster-geek heart is already a-fluttering. Read on and see if yours skips a few beats as well.

Silver Dollar City Going Great Guns
Get ready to be tossed upside down. Three times. On a wooden coaster. That's right, pardner. Silver Dollar City in Branson, Missouri hopes to finally get the concept of inversions on a woodie right with Outlaw Run, the new thrill machine it will be uncorking next spring. The wild-sounding ride will also be incredibly steep and fast and promises to deliver a heapload of airtime. I know where I'm going to be next spring. Read my preview of Outlaw Run and you may start making your travel plans as well.

Cedar Point's Latest Coaster is for Wingnuts
Winged coasters, such as this season's X-Flight and Wild Eagle, are apparently becoming quite popular. Placing riders to the left and right of the track, or the "wings" of a ride, the coasters offer an interesting perspective and coaster experience. Monday, Cedar Point announced a doozy of a winged coaster that will debut in 2013. Called GateKeeper, it will be located at the front of the park and send passengers soaring towards two towers with "keyhole" elements that will straddle the main gate. If you're wondering what the heck that means, check out my coverage:

Free Dining and Other Deals

Summer may be winding down, but that doesn't mean visits to destination theme parks will end. In fact, the late summer and fall, with lighter crowds and special deals, can be a great time to plan a pilgrimage to your favorite park. What deals you say? I'm glad you asked. I just updated my deals pages for Florida and California parks. Among the highlights:

Parks for Families with Young Children
Most theme parks have rides, lands, and other features for very young visitors. But a few parks are geared entirely for the 12-and-under set. Discover magical places where your young kids would be able to ride most of the rides.
