The readers have spoken, the votes have been tallied, and the results can now be announced. | | And the 2012 Readers' Choice Award Goes to... There were some surprises among the winners, but the Readers' Choice Awards offer passionate fans a chance to trumpet their favorite park achievements and parks a chance to rally their fans. As with the Oscars, Grammys, and any other awards program, the voting peculiarities may yield winners that some may question (The Hurt Locker anyone?). By the way, if YOU question this year's Readers' Choice Awards results, you can speak out. OK, on to the 2012 Readers' Choice Awards winners for theme parks and water parks. | A Horrifically Close Race Some of the categories had particularly spirited races this year, with votes pouring in and the top contenders see-sawing back and forth for supremacy. In the Best Theme Park Halloween Event of 2011 contest for example, Knott's Berry Farm and Universal Studios Hollywood were both out for blood. Wanna know who won? See the results. | Mini Delights Aboard Disney Fantasy Sure, the big things are great aboard Disney's newest cruise ship. But the little things - and there are a ton of them -- also help to make the Fantasy a delightful experience. Read more. | Wild Rides Now Open for Wind Seekers This time of year always puts a big smile on my face. After all the hype from the parks and a long off-season, parks are finally starting to open and debut their new attractions. This past weekend the 301-foot tall spinning swing ride, Windseeker, opened at Carowinds. To put that nosebleed-worthy height in context, the attraction is now the tallest structure in South Carolina. (Although the park is officially located in Charlotte, it sits astride the North Carolina/South Carolina state border.) Windseeker is getting rave reviews, along with Wild Eagle, the "wing" coaster that opened on March 24 at Dollywood. The two attractions are among a bevy of new goodies.
