| | Happy New Year park fans. 2011 was a great year, and 2012 is shaping up to be an extraordinary year for parks. I look forward to covering events and sharing my adventures with you in the coming months. Thank you for coming along for the ride. I know, I know. Christmas wrapped a couple of days ago. But let's get back in the spirit, shall we? Let's also take a look back at the 2011 coaster crop. | | Jolly Old St. Mick Whatever holiday you may (or may not) be celebrating, may your days be merry and bright. One guy who will undoubtedly be having himself a merry little Christmas is pro wrestler, New York Times best-selling author, and all-around cool dude, Mick Foley. In addition to his passion for the squared circle, the grappler is positively nuts about Christmas and, as it turns out, theme parks. So it should come as no surprise that he's really nuts about Christmas-themed parks like Holiday World and Santa's Village. A few years ago, I wrote about Mick's enduring love for the New Hampshire theme park he first visited as a child. In the spirit of the season, I thought you'd enjoy reading about how Mick Foley gets a kick out of Santa's Village. | Looking Back at 2011: The Hunt for Coasters One of the most high profile coasters to debut in 2011 was Cheetah Hunt at Busch Gardens Tampa. The name generated some growls among park fans, but the ride got great reviews. Other highlights included the "ZacSpin" coaster, Green Lantern, at Six Flags Magic Mountain (which also revamped its Superman: Escape from Krypton ride), the small but potent Wooden Warrior at Quassy Amusement Park, and Dare Devil Dive, a "Euro-Fighter" at Six Flags Over Georgia. See all of the year's coaster ups and downs in the Coaster Ride Guide 2011. | Christmas Wrap (-Up) Just before the holiday, I joined Nick Hutson and Doug Barnes from The Season Pass and Mike Collins from CoasterRadio.com for a spirited Christmas/end-of-the-year theme park wrap-up special on Nick's ERT podcast. We each offered our picks for 2011 park highlights and talked about the year that was. It was a lively discussion from a great group of guys who share my parkdom passion.
