Looking back on a major victory for whales

Dear Nana,

What a year!

As 2011 comes to an end, I want to take a minute to remind you of an important victory we secured for whales. A victory we couldn’t have achieved without you.

Thanks to your support, vote buying at the International Whaling Commission (IWC) is history. Countries like Japan can no longer bribe poorer countries to support their pro-whaling stance. This means that whale conservation finally has a fighting chance.

The U.S. delegation did the right thing and supported this measure after hearing from millions of whale lovers like you. Without this overwhelming pressure, I don’t believe this would have happened.

This is why I work for Greenpeace. I’m so proud of what we accomplished together. This victory is one of many we won for the planet in 2011, and with supporters like you,  I expect even more in 2012.

From my family to yours, thank you.
