| Dear Nana, There’s more than two million pounds of dead whales — slaughtered by a fleet of whalers subsidized by the Japanese government — wasting away in Japan’s freezers.
Yet Japan allocated another $30 million to support this government-sponsored hunt!
We can end this and save the whales by closing a loophole in international law that allows Japan to hunt whales under the guise of science. But we need your help.
Please help keep whales alive and safe in the seas where they belong by making an urgent gift today.
In the last week, so many whale defenders have joined the campaign that we’ve surpassed our $75,000 goal! So we’ve set a new goal to raise $125,000 by December 31 to step up the fight for whales and our planet in 2012. We can reach our goal with just 18 more people like you from your state. Nana — with the fight to save whales heating up, now’s the time to join Greenpeace.
With your help, we’ll pressure President Obama and the International Whaling Commission (IWC) to close the loophole that Japan is hiding behind, convert the IWC into a conservation body, and end the international trade in whale products.
The Japanese media has reported that the whaling program is operating on a deficit because it depends on profits from sales of the meat “byproduct” that comes out of its so-called scientific whaling — and the meat isn’t selling.
It’s outrageous that Japan’s government is spending an extra $30 million dollars this year (on top of its usual $10 million subsidy!) to keep killing these intelligent creatures — with no scientific benefit and no demand for the meat.
Stop the killing. Please donate now through our secure website.
With so many of you standing up for whales and for our planet, I know we can keep whales out of the freezer and keep them swimming freely in the ocean, where they belong.
Thank you, Philip Radford Greenpeace P.S. We need just 18 more gifts from your state to reach our $125,000 goal before December 31. Make your urgent year-end gift online or at 1-800-722-6995 today and help stop the needless slaughter of whales.
