Whale Slaughter Coming to Whale Sanctuary

Dear Nana, The Japanese government is funding the slaughter of more than 1,000 whales this season — in a whale sanctuary! Please donate now to stop the slaughter of whales and protect our planet. The Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary is becoming a killing ground. As you read this, a Japanese whaling ship is heading for these protected waters, where it will ready its harpoons and rifles and begin to hunt the easiest prey: a mother whale and her calf. It’s a brutal scene. Harpoons pierce the whales 12 inches deep before exploding; more harpoons fly as the mother and her calf desperately thrash; rifles are shot, intended to finish the killing. Then the whales are winched onto the side of the boat, blood trailing behind — and they may still be alive, left to drown to death. With your financial support, we can pressure President Obama and the International Whaling Commission to stop whaling once and for all. Please help stop the killing with your urgent gift. Given what the Japanese whale hunt season looked like just two years ago, the Japanese government could give the go-ahead to the Japanese whaling fleet to haul in nearly 1,000 minke whales, 50 humpback whales, and 50 endangered fin whales — if not more — this season. They defend this tragedy by calling it “scientific whaling.” But meat from these hunts is sold in supermarkets! Worse yet, Japan’s senior vice-minister openly declares that Japan is “determined to continue the program until it leads to the resumption of commercial whaling.” Nana, Greenpeace needs your help to put an end to the slaughter of these unique, highly intelligent and emotional creatures.
