Best of Europe

From James Martin, your Guide to Europe Travel
As I write this, yet another round of powerful Italian earthquakes has created a whole lot of destruction in the Emilia Romagna region--this time it's not the Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese but the Balsamic vinegar that suffered on the gastronomic end of the scale. Buildings which have stood for centuries have crumpled into piles of rubble and up to 12 people are dead as I write this less than a half a day after the quake. Read Martha's synopsis of the latest tragedy.

Trattoria da Romano
The good folks at the Trattoria da Romano on the Venetian lagoon island of Burano will serve you the essence of the mud-burrowing Gó fish in the island's iconic risotto, the risotto that mesmerized you when you saw Tony Bourdain dig into some on the food channel. See our review and suggestions for tripping the islands of the Venetian lagoon.

Rhone Valley Travel Planner
I've picked out a little chunk of the Rhone Valley I particularly like and tell you how you can enjoy it by walking, wine tasting, and staying in this fantastic valley.

Rhine Falls
What's Europe's largest waterfall like? It's in Switzerland, and lots of water pours out of it. You can hike around, then have lunch in the castle or take a boat trip.

Romantic Road
Take a slow drive and see the cuteness of the little towns along Germany's Romantic Road. Say Pfaffenwinkel three times quickly. Then you'll know you've arrived.
