From Sherri Osborn, your Guide to Family Crafts
I know it is Monday and you are expecting a newsletter about Make It Over crafts, but I decided to give the Make-It-Over Monday craft challenge the week off! If you have a beach craft to post, you can still submit it. Normal Make-It-Over posts will resume next week.

Independence Day Ideas
With the Fourth of July actually falling on a Wednesday this year, will many of you celebrate the weekend before or the weekend after the fourth?

I suppose no matter which weekend you decide to celebrate, we can all agree that Independence Day is celebrated in similar ways all over the United States. For those who may not know, many Americans celebrate this day with red, white, and blue decorations and clothes; a fitting tribute to our grand flag. Other traditional July 4th events include fireworks, BBQs, family picnics, and parades.

What do you do on Independence Day? Share your crafty 4th of July ideas, and then check out my craft ideas related to Independence Day traditions and patriotic themes.

Special Days to Celebrate in July
Do you have any special reasons to celebrate during the month of July?

Folks in Canada celebrate a national holiday, Canada Day, on July 1st, and people in the United States celebrate a national holiday, Independence Day, on July 4th.

If you love food, you may especially enjoy July! July is National Baked Bean Month, National Blueberry Month, National Hot Dog Month, National Ice Cream Month, and even National Picnic Month. You can also celebrate graham cracker day on July 5th (how about throwing a s'more party?) On July 6th, which is Fried Chicken Day, plan a picnic with a bucket of chicken! You will also find a special day for sugar cookies, french fries, lasagna, cheesecake, and more.

Are you getting hungry just reading through this list? You can find one or more reasons to celebrate every day during the month of July using this special days calendar.

Fast Craft - Sparkless Sparkler Craft
These safe sparklers are not only colorful and fun for kids, they are simple to make. You can easily make several for kids to play with or take along to a parade or event. These also make adorable decorations and can easily be tucked into plants, table centerpieces, or anywhere else you want a splash of red, white, and blue.

To make a sparkler craft, simply pop the eraser out of the end of a pencil and glue the ends of chenille stems into the hole. Find detailed, step-by-step directions in this tutorial.

I hope you enjoy this fast craft. If you have a fun, fast craft to share, please take a moment to submit it using this simple form.
